The City Ships of Alpha
The Terran Trade Authority is a series of 1970s books by British writer & artist Stewart Cowley. The books describe a near future where Earth is the governing world in the Terran Federation. It's basically a mythos centred around a core of striking sci-fi art from artists such as Angus McKie, Peter Elson and Jim Burns. You can still buy the books today! I highly recommend check them out.
The original four books are-
Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD (by Stewart Cowley, 1978)
Great Space Battles (by Stewart Cowley and Charles Herridge, 1979)
SpaceWreck: Ghost Ships and Derelicts of Space (by Stewart Cowley, 1979)
Starliners: Commercial Travel in 2200 AD (by Stewart Cowley, 1980)
This video is based on 'The City Ships of Alpha' from the first book.

A True Story is a novel written in the second century AD by Lucian of Samosata, a Greek-speaking author of Assyrian descent. I notice you ask musicians to contact you. Much of the music I record has a sci-fi/horror/abstract vibe among some more conventional songs. If I can help at all let me know. You can check my channel to get some idea or I can send you some samples. Cheers.

Late here but LOVE your content. I have enjoyed two stories and will be listening to your whole list. Great narration, with a nice ambient touch that you dont get often. Do more if you are still active.

Thank you. The way in which you read the story using your timber and timing is like that of a virtuoso violinist running his bow across the strings of a Stradivarius.

I had been always fascinated by the TTA universe since childhood. But I never found searching in book shops and over the internet any stuff depicting aspect and anatomy of Alphans and Proximans. I'm really curious about that, could anyone help for that? (links? suggestions?).

I've had recurring dreams of the world ending kinda like this since early childhood. The finality, saying goodbye to everyone, marvelling at impending cosmic death, then waking up. Anyone else get these?

I JUST saw that you run this channel on top of your fabulous history channels. I can’t tell you how excited I am! Please keep this channel going! At first I thought it an unusual stroke of fortune that you share an interest in two things I am also passionate about. Very quickly though, I realised it to be entirely fitting given that sci-fi so frequently explores the development of humanity from philosophical and satirical lenses, as well as the moment of confluence between civilisations hailing from dramatically different cultures and technological development. It’s entirely apropos!!!

To anyone who has read this series- is it any good by modern standards? What I mean specifically is this- is it dripping with that disgusting level of sexism that old sci-fi seems to always be? Where female characters cannot be described without it being really gross and sexual, treated as essentially furniture in some male fantasy? I’m no genders studies student or whatever, but gratuitous sex scenes and reading about “perky” whatever every chapter gets old fast, at least for women.

These old sci fi books are almost removed from the personal level of the individual, written like history books. Consider this video a teaser to the stories contained within those old hardcover books.

Oh WOW... thanks for making this, the TTA books are a treasured part of my youth and to this day enjoy an esteemed spot on my shelf. For a boy back in the 70's, high on Star Wars and reruns of the original Star Trek, their future history tales drawn from random futuristic artwork stoked my imagination, opening the door to famous authors such as Niven, Bester, Pournnelle, etc.
